The summer holidays have begun, so let the socialising commence!

No matter what you are doing or where you are going (unless you plan to stay in your house like a recluse) you will meet new people. But how do you stay in contact these days? Facebook, Twitter, BBM, LinkedIn (for the professionals out there), good old-fashioned phone numbers… the list goes on.

We have all been there: you meet someone new, get along with them and start to exchange details. Suddenly the really relaxed situation becomes quite awkward; either your phone won’t load, you can’t spell a name because it’s so foreign, you can’t find someone online because their name is too common, you can’t hear what they are saying because the music is too loud, or in some cases (it’s happened to the best of us) you’ve forgotten their name since the begining of the conversation.

So wouldn’t it be nice to have a a quick and easy way to exchange details? Well now there is, it’s called ScanMe. ScanMe is an online 3D QR (quick response) barcode creator and profile page.

John Harrison, Founder and Director of ScanMe explains to FAME: “You log-in (using your Facebook login), it creates a unique barcode for yourself, which you can download – some people are using it for their profile pictures. The QR code then takes you to your own personal URL, which is smartphone optimized, and what you can do is customize your page so that you have a ‘send a friend invite’ to your Facebook, ‘follow’ you on Twitter, or ‘link’ with you on LinkedIn.

“You can also have your email and your phone number on there, and can swtich things on and off. If I was going to a work conference, LinkedIn would be a lot more applicable to that, I would maybe have a business card with my QR code on it and I would switch off my Facebook link.

“Subsequently, I could then go out in the evening and slip on my trendy ScanMe T-shirt, with the barcode intergrated into the design – we call it interactive fashion. So I would probably turn off my LinkedIn and turn on my Facebook and Twitter.”
