Prospective postgraduate student Leanne Fraser takes a screen test at the Media Performance department’s open day
An exciting new postgraduate course has been unveiled at the University of Bedfordshire. Entitled ‘Performing Before the Camera’, the course involves preparing students for media opportunities in performance for television, film and new media.
The university’s Media Performance department hosted an open day last week inviting budding television presenters to try their hand at presenting and find out more about the course. Held at the state of the art TV studio at the Luton campus, prospective students had the opportunity to take part in a screen test and heard top tips from the department lecturers.
Course leader in Media Performance, Dr Maria Wiener, hosted the open day and is looking forward to welcoming students who enroll in Performing Before the Camera:
‘There are some great opportunities out there to get into broadcasting. Over the past decade a multitude of new channels have been launched covering a wide variety of interests including news, sports and children’s channels. These channels are easily accessible on terrestrial, Freeview, cable and satellite and online.’
The University of Bedfordshire has a growing reputation in developing TV presenting talent. Alumna Gemma Hunt has worked in television ever since graduating in 2003 and is now a BBC children’s presenter. She returning to the university last year to share her valid experiences with future stars of the screen.
