With every new academic year comes the excitement of Fresher’s Week and the anticipation of Fresher’s Fair. This year the fair was held on Friday 2nd October at the College Lane campus with the £38 million Forum housing most of the stands. As expected the turnout was vast with students descending upon the event from every angle and occupying every square inch of available space. The Forum was packed solid and every stand was a hub of activity.

Entertainment was provided by Forum’s Got Talent winners, Double Trouble, a comedic dance duo made up of twin brothers Ishmael and Nathanial who study Business Studies at UH. The UH Hip-hop dance society also entertained eager onlookers with outstanding performances as did Lordside Fam, a Christian music group from London. Unlike subsequent years, it was noted that large companies were absent however T-mobile, Virgin and Asda were still present to capture the student market. Closer to home, the university itself and the Business School were well represented by the GCU (Graduate Consulting Unit), the Enterprise team, FLARE and UH Arts. Students took home posters and flyers but overall the giveaways this year seemed fewer but I guess the recession has a role to play on that front. If for some reason you couldn’t be at the Fresher’s Fair, fear not, FAME was there to capture the atmosphere.
